Information for Visitors

Hours of operation

9:00 AM to 4:30 PM (visitors are admitted until 4:00 PM.)

  • Hours are sometimes extended for special exhibitions.

Days closed

Every Monday (If Monday is a national holiday, the Garden is open.)

The day after a public holiday (If the day after a public holiday is a Saturday or Sunday, the Garden is open.)

Year-end/New Year holiday (December 28 to January 4)

  • On some occasions the Garden is open to visitors even on the above holidays.

*The admission fees have been revised since October 1, 2019 due to the consumption tax increase.


  • Persons aged 65 or over are admitted free. Please present some form of identification indicating age.
  • Disabled persons, plus one caregiver per disabled person, are admitted free. Please present your Disabled Person's Notebook or similar identification.

  • The following persons are admitted free:
    • FNSM members
    • Repeaters Pass holders
    • Supporting Members
    • Students of University Partnership member universities and the instructors leading them
  • Persons wishing to re-enter the Garden on the same day are asked to inquire at the information desk.
  • Free entry on May 4 (Green Day) and November 3 (Culture Day).
  • Free entry to the Night Observatory, too, on those dates.

Groups

  • Groups of over 20 persons or groups accessing by bus are requested to reserve in advance by telephone or fax. Also, please make a prior reservation if you require a guide. (TEL.029-851-5159)

  • Weekdays: Conducted by an employee (prior reservation required)
  • Weekends/public holidays: regular talks by a Botanical Garden volunteer at 1:30pm. Please inquire regarding other time slots.

Night observatory

Night Observatory General and university students ¥320

  • The Night Observatory is operational for approximately two hours after sundown on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month, if skies are clear.
  • The following persons are admitted free:

    • Students of University Partnership member universities and the instructors leading them

Facilities hire

  • The facilities on the 3rd floors of the Research Exhibit Wing are available for hire. (Free use available in certain cases.)
